Hi, I’m Nelis Tuan, the founder and main reviewer here at Home Lamp Review. I’m a passionate home decor enthusiast and dad living in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas, together with my wonderful wife Emily Nguyen and our two amazing kids, Liam and Olivia.
We call Houston home because it’s one of the most welcoming places for Vietnamese-American families – with a thriving community of over 150,000 Vietnamese Americans (the second-largest in the U.S.), delicious phở spots around every corner, and that warm, sunny Texas weather that reminds me a little of my roots. Our house in the suburbs (think Katy or Sugar Land area) is a cozy mix of modern American style and subtle Vietnamese touches – and lighting plays a huge role in making it feel like “home.”

My journey into lamp decor started as a practical need: after moving to the U.S. and starting a family, I realized how much the right lighting can transform a space – from bright task lights for the kids’ homework to soft, cozy table lamps that make bedtime stories magical. Over the years, I’ve tested, compared, and lived with hundreds of lamps from brands like Amazon best-sellers, West Elm favorites, CB2 sculptural pieces, and more. I’ve seen trends come and go – and in 2025, we’re loving the rise of cordless rechargeable lamps, organic materials (like rattan, travertine, and natural wood), sculptural designs, and layered ambient lighting that creates mood without harsh overhead lights.
